Making an impact

As a teacher, you’ve chosen a career like no other – one that changes lives. With Harris Federation, your impact will be extraordinary.

With 55 academies across London and Essex, we are transforming education in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country. Every lesson you teach helps shape brighter futures for our young people, who are at the centre of everything we do.

As a Federation led by experienced educators, we know that a career in teaching, whilst incredibly rewarding, can also be very demanding. That’s why we look after our staff – because when teachers feel supported, valued and well equipped, they can bring their best self to the classroom every day.

We believe that teachers need three things to achieve greatness: the freedom to teach brilliantly, the development opportunities to grow as learners themselves, and the support of strong leadership. Harris is led by people who have worked in schools, and who understand the challenges and intricacies of working in education.

Your career with us

Career development

When you join Harris, you join a network of education professionals who are some of the best teachers and school leaders in the country. Collaboration is a core component of our success, and no academy works in isolation. We organise our academies into smaller, more interconnected groups to facilitate the exchange of ideas, resources, and support.

We help to pave your career path according to your professional aspirations. By supporting your development at every level, we will enable you to find fulfilment in your work - because we believe that inspired teachers will inspire minds.

In addition to structured qualifications, working at Harris means you will have access to support, coaching and mentoring from senior leaders and subject experts from across the Federation.

Our benefits

Our benefits package is designed to protect your wellbeing, reward your hard work and commitment, and support you in your career growth. In addition to a generous pension, wellbeing support and loyalty bonuses, we enlist dedicated subject experts who sit centrally and offer support across the federation as coaches, interim leaders and even in the classroom.

Teachers like you will also benefit from a Harris Allowance in addition to your salary, this is usually £2,000 to those working in inner London academies and £1,500 in outer London.

Secondary

I can say without any reservations that coming to work for Harris was the best decision I made in my professional life. I joined as Vice Principal; since then, I have been supported, coached, and nurtured to not only excel as a Vice Principal but also to prepare me for my current role - Head of Academy. The continued support and excellent CPD opportunities at every stage of your career is unmatched. I cannot imagine working for any other school or trust now, except Harris.

Shaping futures

Our students are nothing short of remarkable. They work hard and aspire to be the best that they can be.

What makes teaching in Harris academies so fulfilling is witnessing the incredible progress our students make. Many of our young people come from backgrounds where opportunities can feel out of reach, but with the support of our experienced educators, they find new and inspiring ways to flourish.

Our alumni are shining examples of the bright future that education can help shape, and we couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments.

We asked some of the staff at Harris Academy Chafford Hundred to explain why their students are so incredible.

We have students who really want to learn, who thrive on high-quality teaching, who thrive on having an amazing curriculum, who thrive on having teachers who really care.
