Computing achievements at Harris Academy Sutton

Federation Insights Back

At Harris Academy Sutton, Computer Science is an integral part of the curriculum to make students proficient and responsible users of technology by developing their knowledge in digital literacy and e-safety. We are delighted to share two brilliant student achievements from our Computer Science students.

Arkwright Engineering Scholarship

We are thrilled to announce that in June 2024, a student from Harris Academy Sutton was awarded the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first year that a student from Harris Academy Sutton applied for and succeeded in this esteemed programme. Ava Samaranayake was recommended for the scholarship after her excellent performance in the final interview. There were 1532 applications for 2024 scholarships and 660 students were invited to interview. Ava successfully qualified for the scholarship, and she is the first Arkwright scholar from Harris Academy Sutton.

The Arkwright Engineering Scholarship inspires and nurtures future leaders in engineering. Ava began her journey in January, navigating a rigorous application process that included a comprehensive application, a challenging exam, and a demanding interview with industry experts.

Throughout this journey, Ava received invaluable support from Mrs. Tanveer. Reflecting on her experience, Ava shared, "Applying for the scholarship provided me with great mentoring and industry experience. The feedback from Mrs. Tanveer during mock interviews was invaluable."

Ava's acceptance into the Arkwright Scholarship programme is a testament to her dedication and hard work. We are immensely proud of her achievement and the positive example she sets for her peers.
