Embarking on an apprenticeship is a significant step towards personal and professional growth. In this blog, we sit down with Joeley, currently undertaking a Business Administrator apprenticeship, to gain insights into the challenges, rewards, and the unwavering support that has defined her experience so far.

When did you commence your apprenticeship?

I am currently undertaking a Business Administrator apprenticeship, and started at the beginning of September.

How is the balance between work and learning, and how are you managing this?

I chose an apprenticeship as I felt learning whilst working would be the best option for my development. The balance between working and learning, although hard, hasn't been as difficult as I was expecting. This has been helped by the plan put in place by both my manager and mentor to ensure I have dedicated time during the work week for my apprenticeship, no matter how busy we are this is always seen as a priority. Without this plan I think it would be significantly harder for me to balance work and learning.

How are you being supported?

From the beginning I have felt very supported by both my line manager and mentor, there is nothing that is too big of an ask, and they've always been happy to assist me however they can. My training provider has also been supportive despite some issues at the start of my apprenticeship, and these were quickly sorted by the Apprenticeship Team within the Federation who have also offered me nothing but support, and continue to do so.

What are you enjoying about the experience?

I am currently enjoying learning all sorts of new things within the various areas covered in my apprenticeship, such as the Microsoft applications and our organisation and its influences. I am always learning and everything I am learning is helping me to excel in my job role; there is a lot of personal development and I am constantly growing.

What are the challenges?

One of my challenges that has been predominant since I started my apprenticeship is being able to apply everything I've learnt as my "on the job" training to my apprenticeship. Thankfully I have help from my fantastic mentor who has been able to point me in the right direction.
