Summary

We are seeking an outstanding Head of Literacy to work within our high performing Academy.

About Us

Harris City Academy Crystal Palace is a mixed Academy for 1,300 students aged 11-18, with a large sixth form of nearly 400 students.

The Academy has three consecutive Outstanding judgments by Ofsted, with the most recent inspection in 2014 finding the Academy to be Outstanding in every aspect. Main Areas of Responsibility

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Being accountable for and raising standards of student attainment and achievement within Literacy and monitoring and supporting student progress.
  • Developing and enhancing the teaching practice of other teachers in the subject area
  • Ensuring the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum within Literacy
  • Leading, managing and developing the subject.
  • Managing and deploying staff and resources within the subject area
  • Implementing and delivering an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students
  • Monitoring and supporting the overall progress and development of students as a teacher
  • Facilitating and encouraging a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential

Qualifications & Experience

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • QTS (or equivalent) and a good, relevant undergraduate degree
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience
  • Teaching experience in key stages 3, 4 and 5 (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching and learning
  • The ability to use ICT effectively to engage students
  • An understanding of how to use assessment to inform planning for good teaching and learning
  • The ability to differentiate materials to meet the needs of learners
  • Evidence of pastoral experience
  • Experience of being a form tutor
  • The ability to offer an extra-curricular activity
  • Evidence of good classroom management skills.
