How do you feel your ECT experience has been so far?

I have really enjoyed my ECT experience throughout the two years I have done so far. I have learned a lot and I have had a lot of support to help me on my teaching journey.

What have been the highlights of your ECT journey?

It has been lovely to have other ECTs to work alongside. It has created a sense of community, especially when you are struggling at the beginning. We have been able to share a lot of ideas with one another and I think that has been beneficial.

What would you say to someone considering an ECT role at the Harris Federation?

They should really go for it. The support that I have had has really helped me develop. There have been moments where I have needed to go and observe other teachers or I have needed help with lesson planning and there has always been someone available, whether it has been my mentor or someone else in the school who has been able to give their time to help me. I think that is something that is quite difficult to come by. It is quite unique to the school that we can have that time with more experienced teachers.

What is your favourite thing about working at Harris Primary Academy Shortlands?

Most of all it has got to be the children, they are so lovely here and I think we have got a lot of resources that we can use for them. Being part of a Federation especially, we get share resources with other schools. So maybe if something isn’t working here, we can ask for help from other schools and can implement ideas that they might be doing that are successful.
